Is Arbonne a scam?

My first question to you, if you have the intention to join the Arbonne business, is whether you are interested in the Arbonne products or in its business opportunity.

Most people whom I’ve come across will be interested in the business opportunity, rather than its products, because of the low cost of entry to owning your own business, and the chance to be successful in life.

But, the big question is, do a lot of people actually became successful with the Arbonne opportunity?

Before we go deep into that topic, let us take a look at the background of the company.

The company was founded in 1975 in Switzerland, and has been in the market since. Many people claim that Arbonne is a scam, but if it was a scam, it wouldn’t be around for over 20 years, right?

However, I do understand that there are many factors driving people to think that Arbonne is a scam, and I will discuss this in detail as you read along.

In 2014, the company and its subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy because many top distributors left the company and took most of the team with them.  Here are some of the reasons why the top distributors left Arbonne:

If you are interested in Arbonne just because of the low cost business opportunity, you should think twice because you will be in for a surprise when you realize the statistics of success in the company.

Why do people think Arbonne is a scam?

I believe there are many reasons that lead people to think that Arbonne is a scam, but the main reason, I believe, lies with the approach of its Independent Consultants.

Arbonne is basically a Multilevel Marketing (MLM) company, and the crux of it is that it has many Independent Leaders who have different ways to promote the Arbonne business and its products.

This means that the quality of the sale (whether it is a product sale or a membership sale) varies with different teams.

Most of the teams I know of will incorporate the following as an induction program for new Arbonne joiners:

  1. The team leaders will request the new joiners to list down their contacts whom they think will be interested in the Arbonne products or the business opportunity
  2. Then, they will be given a sales call script to guide the new joiners to call the contacts (“Prospects”) in the list
  3. Most team leaders will advise the new joiners to fix a “friendly” appointment with the prospects without mentioning the agenda
  4. During the first few appointments, a team leader will tag along to show the new joiner how an appointment is suppose to be conducted
  5. After the appointment, if the prospects did not sign up, the new joiner is responsible to follow up.

And this is where most prospects find it annoying…

The Standard Approach

I would presume that most of the prospects are your friends and family, and if you put yourself in their shoes, you will know why they started to avoid you after the appointment.

Arbonne-avoid-friendImagine receiving a call from a long lost friend who wants to meet up with you, naturally, you would want to catch up with the friend, right?

But little do you know, your friend brought a stranger to the meet up, and started to sell the Arbonne products and the business opportunity to you.

What would be your impression of your friend?

Let’s say you are convinced about the products after the appointment and you promised your friend that you would give it a try.

So you went home to try the products, and after a few days, your friend called to ask for your opinion of the product.

You told your friend that you don’t feel much difference after a few days, and you requested for a few more days.

Your eager friend called to follow up again after another few days and this time round, you rejected the sale because you feel that the products are expensive and you didn’t get better results.

This is where your friend started to shove the Arbonne business opportunity to you and make you feel guilty if you do not join the business opportunity. You told your friend that you have to think about it.

Weeks after weeks of follow up on the business opportunity with you, you started to feel annoyed by your friend, and you started to avoid the calls and visits.

I have seen many of the above examples happening, and if you want to be successful in the Arbonne business, you must be prepared to lose some or most of your friends and family. The decision is up to you…

The Selling Point of the Arbonne Products

The Arbonne skin care products are said to pure, safe and beneficial, and many Independent Consultants claim that its products are 100% natural.

I am not an expert in this field, so I can’t comment much on the purity of the products, but I do recommend that you read this article.

Arbonne-productsWhat makes the Arbonne products stand out from the rest of the market?

The skin care and cosmetic industry are highly competitive. There are so many brands and different types of products.

Normally, when there is high competition, the prices of the products will be competitive as well. But, for the case of Arbonne, you are paying a premium for the products.

Arbonne claims that their products are scientifically proven and are produced with natural ingredients, but wait, isn’t every skin care companies out in the market proofing that as well?

Take the brand Innisfree, whose products are produced by the ingredients harvested in Jeju. I have been to Jeju and have visited the farms of Innisfree. Their products are made from natural ingredients, but their prices do not nearly compare to the premium prices of Arbonne.

So do consider before you decide to sell Arbonne’s products. Consumers think the same way, if there is a better alternative with a cheaper price, they will eventually choose the alternative. It will be an up battle for you to retain customers in Arbonne.

The Arbonne Compensation Plan “The Success Plan”

Most people who join Arbonne as an Independent Consultant are attracted to its compensation plan. Arbonne calls its compensation plan “The Success Plan”.

Please share with me in the comment section at the bottom of this page on how you make of this video. This is exactly how the leaders in Arbonne will entice you to join the business. They will always share with you the rosy picture to get you to join the business, but once you are in it, you face tonnes of hardship, and you will realize how hard it is to make a sustainable income.

What they fail to share with you is the real income most Independent Consultants make. Out of 100% of the Independent Consultants who join Arbonne, 97% of the Independent Consultants do not make sustainable income. By sustainable income, I mean at least $2,500 to $3,000 a month. Just take a look at the income disclosure below:

Those Top 50 Average figures do look attractive, but you must consider that it is a yearly figure (not monthly) and those figures do not constitute the net profit of the Independent Consultants. As mentioned, 97% of the Consultants do not make a sustainable income. Just take a look at the “Average Annual Earnings” column from the Area Managers and downwards, which is 97% of the active Independent Consultants. At the Area Manager Level, the average annual earnings are $16,635, which is $1,386.25 per month.

If you are taking Arbonne as a full-time job, and you have a family of 4 to feed, basically, you are living in poverty.

It is no wonder many Arbonne Independent Consultants leaves the business because they can hardly make any sustainable income.

My Sincere Advice to You

Although the company and its products are legitimate, it doesn’t mean that the business opportunity is suitable for everyone.

To be successful in Arbonne, you need to be a successful salesman, and not many people likes that.

The prices of the Arbonne products are overpriced as compared to the products in the market. One can argue that it is worth paying a premium for the quality of the product, but most brands in the market offer similar quality at a lower price. I personally do not see any unique selling point of the Arbonne products, and it will be an uphill battle to retain customers.
