Points2Shop Review – Can you really earn money?

A fellow aspiring entrepreneur introduced me to Points2Shop and asked me if it is possible to earn sufficient income so that she can leave her job for good.

So, over the weekends, I took the time to get my hands dirty in the Points2Shop system and found something interesting that I’ll like to share with you in this review.

As a person who’ve tried and tested hundreds of make money online programs, I think I may be qualified to provide an informed opinion.

Before we dive into the program, let’s understand what Points2Shop is…

How I Fired My Boss and Still Earn a Full-Time Income. Here’s How You Can Too!

What is Points2Shop?

Points2Shop (P2S) is what is commonly referred to as a GPT site, which stands for “Get Paid To.”

These kinds of sites are reward sites and can be a decent option if you are looking to make a little cash online.

How much cash?

That depends, and I promise you that it is not a life changing income.

The purpose of this review is to familiarize yourself with P2S so that you can decide for yourself if it is right for you.

Points2Shop started in 2007 by a couple named Mat (Matjong) and Janna (Littlerose).

The team profile page on the site states that they “Created Points2Shop wishing to create a fun, fair GPT for members to enjoy.”

The site boasts of having had sitewide earnings in excess of $11 million since its creation.

It is unclear whether that is all user member earnings, owner earnings, or both.

It is also unclear how many members belong to P2S, but at the time of this review there were over 9000 folks on the site, so it is obviously pretty popular.

How Does Points2Shop Work?

All GPT sites reward their users for completing tasks through a variety of methods, called “offers.”

The primary way offers are presented is through a tried and true system called incentivized marketing.

This is where advertisers offer a monetary incentive when a user clicks on an ad or completes some type of “ call to action.”

This could be filling out a form or watching a video advertisement, among other things.

Sometimes an advertiser requires a purchase or opt-in for a trial membership in order for a payment to be released.

Payments for this type of offer typically pay more, but usually require a credit card and some type of investment.

The third type of offer, market research surveys, are the kind of offer that most people are already familiar with.

These are surveys that are used to gather data for marketing companies who use this research as a way to better understand their customers.

The last type of offers that I will cover are site-specific offers.

These are tasks that are advertised through the main site that ask you to do a specific activity such as “Like” a social media page, post your earnings on a forum or complete a certain number of offers for a bonus.

Most GPT sites, including Points2Shop, also offer an incentive for signing up referrals to their page, as well as weekly or monthly contests.

How to Earn Points2Shop Reward Points

The process of earning money on P2S is largely the same as it is laid out above.

The first thing you will need to do is sign up for an account.

It is free to sign up, but you may only have one account per person.

You also need to be at least 18 years old, or 13 with a parent’s permission.

Once you have signed up and complete your profile, you also want to select your payment methods.

Now, you have to select this carefully…

There are basically 2 earnings preferences, “Points” or “Cash”.

By default, the earnings preference is set to “Points”. This will entitle you to earn rewards such as:

Be careful when selecting “Points” or “Cash”

Be mindful that if you select the “Points” option, you will not be able to convert your points into cash. Meaning you won’t get cash paid directly to your Paypal account or any other modes of payment as defined (Payza, E-Gold, Dwolla, Balanced, check/cheque and many more).

The best way to get paid through the “Points” system is to exchange your points for Amazon gift cards.

If you choose the “Cash” option, you’ll have the flexibility to exchange your cash for points, or you can withdraw cash from the system.

It is obvious which option is better.

Once you have set up your account, you are ready to start completing offers.

You do this by looking for offers you might be interested in and clicking on them to find out the details.

The ticker box on the site will give you real-time updates on offers that are crediting well, so this is a good place to begin.

But you can also sort them out by the “amount of points” or “cash paid”, “average crediting time”, or the “last time the offer credited for somebody else”.

Common types of Offers

  • Take a simple poll
  • Complete a survey
  • Sign up with a travel company to earn points and get free information
  • Sign up to get quotes for an insurance company to earn points
  • Watch Videos
  • Purchase a product or sign up for a free trial

Important:

It is imperative to use real information like real email addresses and your real phone number when completing offers.

Using fake information is considered a violation of the site’s terms of service and can get you booted off without compensation. Who would want that, right?

Also, remember when signing up for offers that require a credit card you will need to read the instructions very carefully.

While many of these can pay quite well, there may be certain cancellation policies in effect that prohibit you from receiving an incentive if you don’t keep the trials for a specified period of time.

If you are prohibited from canceling a trial offer, or if you forget to cancel a trial in time, you are apt to lose more than you make, so always be aware of the fine print.

Common Complaints about Points2Shop

The most common complaint by far on Points2Shop is the frequent banning of users from the site.

While there are always users who complain about being banned on GPT sites, there is often a very good reason for it.

As previously stated, using any other information aside from your own on your profile or while doing offers is a big violation of the rules.

So is having more than one account.

Another violation is completing the same offer on multiple sites.

These infractions alone are enough to get many people banned, but it appears that more people than ever are being banned or blocked.

I will address this in more detail in my summary below.

Some other frequent complaints include:

  • Slow customer service
  • Difficulty qualifying for surveys
  • Being blocked for a change of location
  • Complicated and unreasonable rules
  • The site is not mobile friendly

What I like about Points2Shop?

  • Quick and easy sign-up process
  • User-friendly interface
  • Easy way to make some quick cash if there are no other options and you have nothing else to do anyhow
  • Being able to earn Amazon gift cards

What I DON’T like about Points2Shop

  • Amount of time spent on offers compared to the amount you are compensated is not much
  • Not a reliable source of income
  • Giving out my information results in massive amounts of spam to my email and phone
  • The threat of being banned is always looming

How I Quit My Job and Still Earn a Full Time Income. My Humble Story!

Is Points2Shop a Scam?

I don’t believe Points2Shop is a scam, because I’ve actually received payouts from them without a problem.

However, I certainly never made enough money to pay the bills or to do much more than purchase an item or two on Amazon, put a little gas in my car, or buy myself a couple of cups of coffee.

Working on a GPT site can be a very time consuming endeavor for very little rewards.

However, the quick payouts and simple tasks, made it an attractive option.

If you have time on your hands, you can reasonably expect to make a few dollars here and there with Points2Shop.

It is up to you to decide if the incentive is worth the time you invest. Your mileage will vary.

But, with all that being said, while I don’t think it’s a scam, there does appear to be an inordinate amount of banning going on at P2S.

The Big Red Flag

A look at other reviews shows a startling trend of users being banned at the time of a payout request.

Glancing through a couple of review sites I see dozens of complaints about this.

There is only one reason why this would happen, and it is a big red flag.

The reason for the alarm is this: Website owners who run GPT scripts are paid by the advertisers.

In turn, they pass a portion of their revenue on to users.

A user can only complete so many offers before they run out of them and revenue for that user begins to slow down.

While new offers do get added, the bulk of the offers is usually completed when a user is new to the site.

The trend of banning people as soon as they meet and request payout indicates to me that the website could possibly be allowing people to complete offers, collecting the advertiser’s payments, and then banning some users at the time of cashout to avoid having to pay that share of the revenue out.

Dirty pool, I know. It is also hard to prove, and since the amount of money exchanging hands is relatively minuscule, people tend to let it go, move on to something else, and a new user comes in to take their place and start the cycle all over again.

Note: This is purely my educated guess and opinion!

My Sincere Advice to You

Concluding my Points2Shop review, I will say that yes, you can make money on Points2Shop, but the amount is pitifully small compared to other things you could be doing with your time.

On the other hand, if you are doing nothing already, you won’t lose anything by trying this method, but I would not recommend you count on it as any source of usable income.

I guess if you’ve read this far, you’d probably be interested to know if there is any way that you can earn a substantial income so that you do not have to work for someone else.

As I’ve mentioned at the start that I am an online entrepreneur, and I do earn a full-time income from home.

But, it took me several years to finally fire my boss on August 2017. You can read my full story here.

If you are the type who have an entrepreneurial spirit (the willingness to give it all, even if you know that there’s no guarantee), and you are seeking for a proven method to build a sustainable online business, then I highly recommend that you check out this program.

This is the program that helped me and thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs earn a decent income online. I hope it can help you too.

This was a good review to read. With rewards sites like Points2Shop one would get a minimum-wage job at best. For every penny earned, you have to do something; for every hour spent on a GPT site, you probably only used your brain for 10-15 minutes.

These are simplistic tasks that will melt your brain after a while. Now, is that worth one or two dollars an hour? There are certainly better ways of making money in this world. The people that use rewards sites are missing out on education and other pecuniary opportunities by continuing to spend time on sites like this.

My biggest gripe with GPT sites is that they reserve the right to terminate your account at any time without reason, without notice, and certainly without liability. This clause suggests you take a risk with the companies you are working for. You could potentially lose days or weeks worth of work on the site.

There is no way one can be financially independent or even earn much money if (s)he has to rely overmuch on rewards sites, especially if the site(s) have no obligation at all to you. I have been reading the OneMoreCupofCoffee blog for such a long time now to say all of this.

Points2shop is great but the new generation of Apps is just as good or even better.
