Before we move on to discuss on eToro and how it works, I just want to make sure that you are aware of the risk involved when investing or trading.

There is no guarantee to your success, and you may risk losing all your investment monies. So long you are aware of the risk involved, we are good to go.

The very existence of eToro is to connect investors/traders (whether novice or expert) around the world into one place, and that place is eToro.

The amazing thing about eToro is its understanding of the problems faced by many novice investors/traders (For easy reference, “investors/traders” are herein known as “Traders”).

Investment and trading is a very wide topic, there are news feed every single minute or seconds and the market changes drastically, it is hard for you to monitor such market movements especially if you have other commitments like a full-time job.

This is where eToro is extremely helpful, it allows you to copy the trading action of other Traders.

Yes, everybody is saying that you should always be prudent and diligent when making your own investment or trades, but I feel that it creates more harm if you invest or trade blindly.

In eToro, if you do not wish to take the time and analyse each and every investment (we know it is almost impossible), you can do your due diligence on other Traders.

Source out the best Trader(s) who fits your criteria, and who has/have a long and stable track record, communicate with them and get to know a little bit more on their strategy.

Basically, it is like finding a portfolio manager, but the good thing is you do not need to pay a single cent to them. To me, this is simply amazing!

These expert Traders may have lots of experience, and most likely know more than you in terms of investing or trading.

By following them, you basically leverage onto their knowledge and experience.

If you follow their trades closely and study their trading movement, you may be able to gain some knowledge and in future, and you might even do your own trades and people might follow you.

That is where you become the “Expert” Trader.

Sourcing the Right “Portfolio Manager”

As I have mentioned above, you can copy another Trader.

If you do not have the luxury of time to follow the markets closely, but you would still like to get a piece of the action, it is suggestible to find the right Trader to copy.

The “KEY” to finding a good Trader is “CONSISTENCY”.

I am sure you would be interested to copy a Trader if he/she has constantly beaten the market right? If you found one, please let me know too, I would love to copy his/her trades.

When you have a question whether to BUY or SELL an investment…

Investment and trading is a subjective topic. Normally, when you have a question with regards to an investment or trading, who would you look for? An Investment Advisor? A stock broker?

Engaging an Investment advisor is costly, and normally a stock broker can’t give good advice because they do not trade themselves. So how do you get your question answered?

With eToro, you can post your questions to the “News Feed” and other Traders will give you their advice and opinions.

eToro works just like a community, other Traders are willing to share their points of view, and it is up to you whether you want to heed their advice or not.

Afraid of trading REAL money at this moment?

eToro-virtual-portfolioIt is fully understandable when you are new to trading and do not have the confidence to execute trades. It is a scary thing when you first started.

Hence, to build up your confidence, you can trade with virtual money.

eToro provides you with the environment to learn how to trade by using a “Virtual Portfolio”. It works exactly like the “Real Portfolio”, but the only difference is that it trades with “Fake” money.

In this way, you can execute whatever trades you want without the worry of losing real money.

However, if you really want to be successful with trading, I suggest that you take the “Virtual Portfolio” seriously, and treat it as though you are trading with real money.

What are the commission rates and spreads in eToro?

Because eToro is regulated, they are not allowed to charge an extravagant commission/spread on each trade.

Check out the table below that discloses the typical commission spreads for each currencies:

eToro-commission-and-spread

If you are not sure what a “Pip” is, in Forex term, it is called “Percentage In Point” and it is a smallest price change an exchange rate pair (e.g. EUR/USD).

An increase or decrease in Pips represents a profit or loss in the trade.

For instance, if you are trading on Euro/US Dollar, and you realised a profitable trade of 20 Pips, your actual profit will be 17 Pips, and 3 Pips goes to the broker (eToro).

This is a common practice in the trading market and you shouldn’t be alarmed by it.

What can you trade in eToro?

There are 30 Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF), thousands of listed stocks, 12 Indices, 5 commodities, and 31 currency exchanges.

Though the stock exchanges are limited to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE), I feel that there are sufficient stocks for us to dive into.

Is it hard to get money out of eToro?

It is easy to withdraw money from your eToro account. This is unlike many other brokers which will withhold your money for as long as they want.

When you make a withdrawal request to them, they will pay money directly to your bank account within 5 working days.

Most importantly, because eToro is regulated, they have to adhere to the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.

Money have to be deposited to a bank account under the same name as your trading account, any third-party withdrawal will not be allowed.

Withdrawal fee is $25, independently of the amount.

    1. Hey Patrick,

Thanks for reading our Etoro review. Now, regarding CashFX, im afraid it is a scam and here’s why.

On behalf of Jack, I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

      Best,
      Jay

  2. Hi Jack

I’m a beginner and I’m finding this interesting.

What is the difference between Kuvera and eToro?
I know Kuvera send out PIPs and eToro you can follow an investor and take their lead.

Is the information being shown from both two sources at the same expert level or do you find one more reliable than the other?

Are there other sites you recommend for ForEx?

    Thanks

    1. Hey Ken,

The focus is very different for both programs.

In Kuvera, you get notification for trading signals, and that is based on the “team of experts” in Kuvera. There is no way that you can verify the effectiveness of the “trading team” unless you take every trade they recommend or you wait out for a few weeks and test their principles.

In eToro, it is open source trading. You can basically know how good or how badly a trader has performed. So, I would say that it is more credible in this case.

However, both platforms have its risk. I am sure you know about that.

      Does this help?

      Cheers!

  3. Hello Jack,
Am Andy and I have traded some years back using FXCM (forex capital market) but wasn’t really successful Base in my skill set, just wondering if I have to pay up a fee to use the demo trade on etoro. I am actually interested in forex part of it and secondly I want your personal advice, which do you think is better to go for, imarket live or etoro. Thanks!

    1. I would suggest eToro. iMarketslive is more about network marketing more than trading actually.

In eToro, you can source for the right trader to follow, which is a good thing for people who are not experts in trading or do not have 24 hours to monitor the trade.

      Hope this helps!

      Cheers!

  4. Isaac Magnus Isogon says:

Hi Jack, i am interested in trading but my nature of job is very time consuming. i am based in Nigeria, so my question is, Can i get someone to trade for me on etoro?

    1. Hi Isaac,

eToro works like a copy trade system. Which means that when you decide to follow the trade of a particular trader, whenever that trader make a trade, your account will follow. So, you don’t directly deal with the trader, the system will help you copy the Trades of the trader you select. So, you would have to do your own due diligence to find the right trader to copy.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers!

  6. Hi, i would like to buy crypto currency and hold it for a long term investment, is this the right way for me to go? what would the charges be?
    Thanks,
    Layne

    1. Hi Layne,

There’s definitely a risk involve in any investment. I personally own some Cryptocurrencies and they are not making any money right now. I going for the long term as well.

However, I do know that there are certain risk, like what if the cryptocurrency is redundant in the near future, it’s value could vanish like thin air in a short period of time.

So, I would advice to invest wisely. Do not put everything in one basket.

Here are the charges of eToro:

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers!

  8. I am in the USA, Jack is there a good service you would recommend being eToro does not allow US residents to use it?

    1. Unfortunately, I do not have any copy trader programs for U.S. citizens at the moment. If I found one, I will reply to this message.

      Cheers!

    Hello Jack,

I have been looking at opportunities to get into trading but I have been SCARED due to the fact that I do not have any experience whatsoever and I do not want to get burnt.

I am in Nigeria, please how do I get into the eToro Platform, from your reviews it seems to be great as it offers me the chance to mimic experienced traders. In my country you have a lot of platforms on forex and binary trading coming in and like you stated, there is too much hype but no content- imarketslive, iforex and others.

I will like to know more about eToro.

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Ebimobowei Ere,

Apologies as I didn’t know that the sign up link was down. I’ve just updated it. Let me know if you have problems signing up.

I think Social Trading is the way to trade in the future (especially for non traders like us).

      Cheers!

  12. Jose I. Rodriguez says:

I’d love to finally get my feet wet with trading, Jack… what’s the next step?

    1. Have you open up an account with etoro? Once you’ve done it, you can deposit cash or you can try trading the demo platform to get a feel of it.

      Hope this helps!

      Cheers!
      ~Jack (BareNakedScam)

  13. Great work, highly simplified. thanks for all the information.

  14. Does etoro have autotrading?

    1. Yes. You can select the trader you would like to follow, and your account will mimic the trades.

      Cheers!
      ~Jack (BareNakedScam)

  15. All I see here is somethine like a sales letter 🙁

You didn’t explain exactly how money flows and how etoro works.
Can you explain this to me.
1st if etoro take prices from other exchanges that means that price is not changed based on buy/sell on etoro, right?
2nd Maybe you explained but just to make sure, on etoro you are not buying a thing, except prediction (like betting), you are actually betting, my question (1st) is against who?
3rd what would happen if all traders are in the profit? Example: everyone buy BTC for $1000 and it jumps 2 times, and everyone withdraws money, what would happen with etoro?

    1. Hi Kova,

      Thank you for your questions!

eToro is basically a broker with an added feature of copying other trader’s trade, hope that answers your question 1 and 3. In any kind of trade, there will be winners and there will be losers, when there is a transaction, there will be someone buying and someone selling, there’s never a time when everyone wins. Trading and investing is always a zero sum game.

This gives flexibility to people who do not have the time to follow the market news. So, essentially you are betting on the trader you are following. I believe this answers your second question.

Feel free to let me know if you have more questions.

      Cheers!

  18. innocent` says:

    hello anybody here

  19. keep up the good work!your website is fantastic!!
just wanted to ask about the risks. can i lose my real money or fall in debt?

    1. Thanks Elle!

You can lose real money, but the loss will be as much as the capital your put in. You will not fall into any debt if you trade within your account balance, but I do suggest that you trade with the demo account to gain some experience if you don’t have it.

      Cheers!
      ~Jack (BareNakedScam)

  20. Is this real or scam?

    1. This is real! I have tried and tested the trading platform and it works.

      Cheers!
      ~Jack (BareNakedScam)

  21. I’ve been looking into trading for some time now, Etoro seems like a good place to start, Especially with the “Virtual Portfolio”

  22. Hey Jack,
I wish I would have known about this a few months ago. I went onto another trading website and lost $250 over a few weeks. I was just playing and wanted to know what it entailed.
Kind of got sucked in by making a profit and then oh no, lost some then gained some back. Never could gain back what I lost!
I like the idea that etoro can use fake money to learn! That is just an excellent way to learn if it is something you can learn and do.
Will have to check it out sometime, just not right now.
Thanks for sharing this excellent website.
If anyone is interested in learning the trading market, this sounds like the best way to learn.
    Sheila

  23. Hi Jack,

You made a very complication subject understandable so thanks for that.

The product itself seems good but I wanted to ask a question about forex which you actually mention in your review.

Some time ago I looked at forex and decided the details you are required to understand can be mind boggling, and I subsequently decided not to take that route.

Can you tell me what is the main difference between forex and eToro? Perhaps eTore is easier to use?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Carl

    1. The main difference between Forex and eToro is that one is an instrument and the other is a broker. Forex is an instrument for you to trade in and eToro is the middleman that executes your trade.

      Hope this explanation helps.

      Cheers!
      ~Jack (BareNakedScam)

  24. I’m glad I found this article, I have been interested in trading for some time, but have been dubious about some of the platforms. It’s good to get an insider review, I might give this a go.

  25. Hey Jack,

I like the style of your site. It’s very well layed out and is a pleasure to read. I’ve been an eToro user for a few months now. It’s a nice platform to trade with and I actually don’t know much about stocks so I copy a trader.

Unfortunately I can’t recommend a trader atm, since I’m still looking haha 🙂

    All the best,
    Jurgen
